ADAS NATIONAL 9/13
PEST AND
DISEASE REPORT
BARLEY YELLOW DWARF VIRUS Barley yellow
dwarf virus is transmitted to cereal
crops by aphids. In the Autumn these
aphids can either fly in to the crop
or tranfer directly from previous grass
or cereals.
The traditionally "high risk" early-
sown crops adjacent to large areas of
grasslands, which contained grass weeds
or volunteers from the previous crop,
face an increase risk of bydv infection
Farmers who are concerned about this
problem should consult their local ADAS
adviser.
