P149 BEEBFAX 122 Thu 31 Dec --:--/--          19 March Argentine scrap metal  merchants land on the Falkland Islands  and place an Argentine flag in the  middle of the British Colonial outpost  of South Georgia.  2 April War begins as Argentina's  General Galtieri invades the Falkland  Islands believing that Britain lacked  the strength or interest to come to  their defence.
